What Are Veneers?

Dental veneers are a uniquely made cosmetic device that enhances the appearance of your teeth. These custom made shells are used to improve color, shape, reduce gaps, and erase chips.
There are different kinds of veneers that vary drastically in cost and durability. The two types of veneers are porcelain and resin. Porcelain is more durable but also more expensive. Resin-based composite veneers are more affordable, but are not as durable and tend to break and need to be replaced more frequently.
Dental veneers are a permanent solution to cosmetic dental issues.

Who are Veneers for?

Veneers are for patients with persistent cosmetic dental concerns. They can be used to create a beautiful smile without the use of braces, retainers, or teeth whitening.
Veneers are a permanent dental treatment. When placing veneers, part of the protective enamel is removed, making it permanent.

What to Expect During the Procedure?

What to expect depends on what type of veneer you are getting. If you are choosing to use porcelain veneers, our staff will have to remove some of your tooth’s protective enamel before taking an impression of your teeth so that the veneers can perfectly couture to fit your teeth. This is all that is done in your first appointment. It will take some time for custom veneers to be made. At your next appointment, the veneers will be adjusted and examined for color and fit before permanently bonding them to each individual tooth.
If you choose resin based veneers, our staff will start by cleaning and reshaping your teeth in preparation. Unlike porcelain veneers, resin veneers are sculpted directly onto the tooth. After shaping the veneers, the material is made to dry and harden before being polished to give them a more natural appearance.
After your veneers are placed, you will need to come in to a follow up appointment to ensure that everything is staying in place, looks natural and is comfortable. This allows you time to get use to your new smile and make adjustments if necessary.
Caring for veneers is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Good oral hygiene is still necessary to keep your smile healthy. It is also advised to avoid foods that can stain or chip your teeth. With proper care, your veneers should last up to 10 years.

What is the difference between veneers, crowns, and implants?

Dental veneers, crowns, and implants all mimic the appearance of real teeth. However, their uses and placement vary. The biggest difference is the placement of each device. Dental veneers cover the front of a tooth as opposed to crowns which cover the entire tooth all around. Crowns are better used for teeth that have minimal structure left whereas veneers leave most of the tooth intact.
Implants are devices that bolt to the jawbone to replace teeth that are entirely missing. A cheaper alternative to missing teeth is to use a bridge, containing a crown on either side of a missing tooth, with a bridge, or fake tooth in the middle to bridge the gap.
The first step in the procedure is prep. A barrier gel will be applied so that your gums and lips are not affected by the treatment. After the barrier gel is applied, the teeth whitening gel is next. The gel is activated using a UV light allowing for rapid results. These steps are repeated multiple times every 15 minutes until desired results are achieved and you walk out with a brighter smile!
